featuring illustrations by brady evans void opens this thursday, february 21, 2019, showcasing new work by hawaii-based comic artist and illustrator brady evans. a reoccuring theme of silhouetted people, animals, and objects delineated only by their surrounding pattern conveys the idea of presence in absence; an idea emerging from a sequence of recent losses in his personal life.
evans will also be showcasing a body of collaborative work with ceremonial tea master, sokei. he visually narrates a chapter of a story sokei authored in 2017 about a ruminative stroll through a camellia grove.
with a strong interest in manga and other forms of sequential imagery and story telling, evans' work is often narrative and explores themes that include death, humor and our place in the natural and supernatural worlds.
