Thank you for your interest in the 2018 Metta Music Festival hosted by Audiophile Entertainment. We encourage artists and designers from all disciplines to submit and be part of the festival. We strongly request you read all information closely to ensure that your proposal is complete and is eligible for jury selection.
Both artists and artist collaborative groups are encouraged to apply to have an installation featured at the festival. Approximately 3 installations are being sought to display work during the one night event being held at the Kaka`ako Art Complex. Artists interested in submitting a proposal should consider both the audience and the outdoor environment of the festival when proposing a project. All artist groups who are chosen will receive free entry to the festival as well as $200 to assist in the production of their work.
Festival Theme: Metta
Artists are encouraged to submit work that embodies and explores the concept of Metta.
Metta means to care and wish well for another being without judging them, to accept them independently of agreeing or disagreeing with them, and without wanting anything from them in return. It is a universal love that can overcome all social, religious, ethnic, political and economic barriers. As a result of metta, one can experience another state of the four Buddhist virtues: joy, a true happiness in another's happiness.
While not a requirement, the festival supports the innovative techniques using light and light technologies as a growing art medium. Light itself in any form is encouraged to be part of the actual artwork and the role of light to be essential to your concept. While submissions of artworks where light is used only to illuminate it will be considered, we also strongly encourage new technologies and innovative use of light.
As well as new ideas for artworks, we are open to receiving proposals to exhibit existing works, provided they meet the Festival themes and criteria.
Due to the nature of the festival, we strongly encourage that all artwork be durable enough to be touched and no pieces be removable or hazardous to the attendees. If you do not want your work to be touched, please include plans of how you will create a barrier around the work or hang at a height high enough to keep it safe.
Artwork could include any of the following genres and/or technology: Light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, light sculptures, LED, fibre optics, interactive works, lasers, fiber art, and 2D works such as paintings, drawings, prints, photography, etc.
